ICE Release Scope in Jefferson
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System serves civil immigration detention. It is separate from Louisville Metro Corrections, Kentucky DOC, and the federal prison system. ICE materials say ODLS includes people now detained and people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. After that short period, a no-result does not establish that detention never occurred.
An LMDC release can be recorded when ICE assumes custody. State the first event as release from LMDC and the second as ICE detention only when each source supports it. A local roster disappearance alone does not prove that ICE took custody.
Search the ICE Detainee Locator
ODLS offers two identity routes. The strongest uses the nine-digit A-number and country of birth. The other uses the exact first and last name, country of birth, and optional birth date. Spelling and name order matter.
- Open ODLS and select the A-number or biographical search.
- Enter the nine-digit A-number and country of birth when available.

Keep the A-number private except where it is needed for an authorized inquiry. If identifiers conflict, ask ICE to resolve the record rather than choosing the closest name.
Jefferson County ICE Detainers
An ICE detainer is a request that another law-enforcement agency provide notice and hold a person for up to 48 additional hours so ICE may assume custody. The request is not proof that ICE actually took custody. Obtain the LMDC release transaction and receiving-agency field where maintained.
A court order resolving the Kentucky charge does not answer what happened under immigration authority. Likewise, an ICE result does not explain the Jefferson criminal disposition. Keep the systems separate and preserve each event date.

Trace LMDC to ICE Custody
Start with the LMDC corrections records form. Identify the person and booking, then ask for the actual release timestamp, release type, and receiving agency or destination where maintained. Recent ICE Release Results
An ODLS recent-release result means the person left ICE custody within the system’s displayed period. It should not be broadened into a claim that every legal matter ended. Immigration court proceedings, reporting duties, or another custodian may still matter.
After 60 days, contact the ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line at 888-351-4024. Supply the name, A-number, country of birth, and last known facility when appropriate. Ask for the status of the ICE record, not an interpretation of the Jefferson court case.
Note: A released ICE result and an LMDC release date may describe two separate departures in sequence.
ICE Versus BOP Release
ICE is a civil immigration detention system. BOP manages federal criminal imprisonment. A federal criminal defendant may also move through USMS custody, while a local LMDC detainee can encounter an immigration detainer. These paths should not be collapsed into one federal result.

Use the system that held the person at the event being checked. A no-result in one locator says little about the others.
Document an ICE Release
Create a dated source log with the spelling searched, A-number, country of birth, system, and exact result. Retain the LMDC transaction, court order, and ICE response as separate records. If the ODLS result changes, keep both observations and describe the change.
Corrections should go to the agency that owns the disputed field. LMDC addresses its booking or release transaction. The Jefferson clerk addresses its docket. ICE addresses ODLS and immigration custody information. Send the stable identifier, disputed fact, supporting record, and requested correction to the right custodian.
Describe the outcome with both agency and event. “ODLS showed a recent release from ICE custody” is supportable when the result says so. It does not prove that the Jefferson charge was dismissed, that no reporting condition remains, or that another agency did not assume custody.
If the LMDC and ODLS dates appear inconsistent, do not overwrite one with the other. They may record different steps. Preserve both and ask each custodian to confirm its own transaction before drawing a timeline.

ODLS does not provide a general pickup promise for Jefferson County. ICE custody may occur far from Louisville, and a recent-release result does not identify every condition or next step. Confirm details with ICE or the responsible legal representative before travel.
When release follows a local handoff, the LMDC timestamp and ICE event may fall on different days. Keep both. A family member should not wait at the Main Jail Complex or an assumed ICE location without current agency instructions.
Identity documents, property, and local jail funds are handled by the agency that held them. Those administrative matters do not establish immigration status. Direct each question to the custodian that owns the record and keep any response with the dated source log.

Exact wording matters. “Not in LMDC custody,” “released from ICE custody,” and “not in BOP custody” are separate claims. Avoid combining them into a broad statement about freedom or final case outcome.
An LMDC release timestamp, detainer date, and ODLS observation may describe three steps. Keep each tied to its source. None can stand in for the others, and transport or processing can place the events on different days.
