Where KDOC Releases Lead
Kentucky Department of Corrections manages sentenced state offenders and community supervision. A Jefferson conviction does not mean the person is held in Jefferson County. KOOL separates conviction county, current institution or location, and county of supervision. Those fields can point to different places. A person leaving a prison may return to the community on parole, begin mandatory reentry supervision, move to another authorized placement, or reach a discharge status.
The official Kentucky Offender Online Lookup can retain a state record after release. It may show a photograph, convictions, supervision, projected release information, and parole history. That makes KOOL unlike LMDC's current-only roster. Still, a projected date is not proof of departure. Use the actual status, location, supervision entry, and the KDOC Daily Releases row together.
Confirm a KDOC Release
Search by DOC or PID number when possible. A name search can return aliases and people with similar names. KOOL offers filters for name, identifier, supervision status, conviction county, county of supervision, photographs, and projected release date range. Match the identifier and neutral identity fields before using a result.

- Read the exact current status, location, conviction county, and county of supervision.
- Separate projected, minimum-expiration, parole-eligibility, proposed-parole, and actual dates.
- Open the KDOC Daily Releases archive for the relevant calendar or business date.
- Use Kentucky VINE or a KDOC record request when the public fields need confirmation.
The Daily Releases archive is organized as date-based PDFs, not a rolling Jefferson County list. Rows can show the offender, release type, and releasing facility. It can include a state offender leaving a county detention center. Report the listed facility and type rather than assuming release from a state prison building.
Request KDOC Release Records
KDOC's open-records instructions accept offender-record requests by email or mail. Identify the full name and birth date or offender ID. Ask for an existing release or discharge record and name the fields needed. The state retention schedule identifies “Inmates and Releases” series 02990, updated daily and permanently retained by the agency. That series can help describe the target when a public KOOL view is not enough.

KDOC publishes current copy media and paper fees on its instructions. Ask for an electronic copy and a cost estimate because methods and charges can change. Security, medical, victim, personal, juvenile, or other exempt information may be withheld.

Keep the dated KOOL view with the request response. If a field is wrong, send Offender Information Services or the records office the DOC number, disputed value, and supporting order.

KDOC Release Date Differences
KDOC records may display several dates at once. A minimum expiration reflects sentence calculation. A projected release date can change as credit, discipline, orders, or other factors change. Parole eligibility is an opportunity for Board review. A proposed parole date remains subject to required processing. Only an actual release or discharge event confirms departure from the listed placement.
KRS 197.045 addresses state sentence credits, but it should not be applied as a simple calculator without the sentence and current agency calculation. Violent-offender, offense-date, sex-offense, and other rules can alter eligibility. KDOC Daily Release Archive
Kentucky maintains a deep official archive of Daily Releases PDFs. This is unusually useful because it reports actual state-system events rather than only a future projection. Search the relevant date and adjacent business dates around weekends or holidays. Preserve the PDF's own internal date and headings, even if a link label differs by a day.
The archive can identify release type and releasing facility. It may show a sentenced state offender leaving Louisville Metro or another county detention center under KDOC control. That does not turn it into a complete Jefferson pretrial release list. Conversely, a person convicted in Jefferson may leave an institution far from Louisville. County of conviction, releasing facility, and supervision district must remain separate.
A daily row can be joined with KOOL's current supervision status and the court judgment. If the person enters mandatory reentry supervision or parole, release from confinement does not mean the end of correctional control.
KDOC Supervision After Release
Parole is community supervision after the Parole Board grants or authorizes release under applicable law. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence. Mandatory reentry supervision is a statutory release category with its own conditions. KOOL may place a released person at a probation and parole district rather than at an institution. That is evidence of community supervision, not continued prison confinement.

Jefferson County is divided among multiple KDOC supervision districts. District 17 serves Jefferson North West, while Districts 16, 18, and 19 serve other parts. Use the exact KOOL county and location rather than assigning every Louisville address to District 17.
KDOC Administrative Release Processing
KDOC policy contains an administrative-release convention that can affect the processed date. The date may move to the first day of the minimum-expiration month or, when that day is a weekend or legal holiday, to the preceding weekday. That convention is not a universal promise. Discipline, lost good time, extreme circumstances, new orders, and detainers can change the result. Always verify the date on the current offender record and the actual release source.
A detainer can change the destination. It may cause a handoff to another county, federal authority, or immigration agency instead of a community return. The Daily Releases entry should therefore be quoted with its release type and releasing facility. Then check the receiving system. KOOL cannot confirm a later federal or ICE release, just as the BOP locator cannot describe an ordinary Kentucky sentence.
Parole Board schedules are also distinct from release records. Eligibility lists can identify a hearing month, offender name, DOC number, and location. Hearings may occur before the eligibility date, and a Board action can be granted, denied, deferred, rescinded, revoked, or otherwise labeled. Use the exact action and then confirm physical release through KDOC. An eligibility or proposed date should never be rewritten as an actual discharge.
Read Jefferson KOOL Fields
KOOL's filters and detail fields let a Jefferson County search follow different parts of the state record. Conviction county connects the case to Jefferson. Current location identifies an institution, county placement, or supervision office. County of supervision shows where community oversight is assigned. These fields need not match, and none should be substituted for another.
The public detail may also show a photograph, offenses, sentence data, projected release information, and parole history. KDOC says KOOL is updated four times daily, so record the observation time. A change between views may reflect processing, not an error. Keep both dated results when the status changes and use the actual release source to describe the event.
For a person released on parole, compare the Board action with the proposed date, Daily Releases entry, and new supervision location. For mandatory reentry supervision, retain the exact release type. A final discharge is different from release from a prison into community control. Definitions matter because each status carries a different point on the correctional timeline.
If the Jefferson court judgment conflicts with KOOL, do not resolve it by assumption. Send KDOC the DOC number, disputed sentence or date field, and the signed order. The court clerk controls its own file, while KDOC controls the statewide offender record. Preserve each response with the source date.
